I am a volunteer at India Rainbow Community Services of Peel and also did my student placement with the same as well. I have a very rewarding experience working there. India Rainbow is truly following its mission of helping community with their Settlement, Health, education (LINC) and other social services.
I worked with a Settlement Worker and a Women’s Counselor. It was beyond my imagination that how many people are there in need of these services and many may still do not know about them. Many of them have a language barrier and IRCS helps them by providing services in their own language. The staff at IRCS is so welcoming, caring, and professional to serve their clients at their best. South-Asian community in Peel is in great need of the services without any language barrier. They need someone who can speak their language and can understand them culturally which IRCS does.
All programs and services available at IRCS are brilliantly taken care of. Settlement Services and language Instruction for Newcomers are an ongoing need in the community as long as immigrants are settling down in Canada. But, I would like to mention two programs which I immensely appreciate. One of them is women’s program where women who are victims of domestic violence get crisis intervention followed by other service like counseling, empowerment, legal and transitional support. The other appreciable program is Adult Day Care program for seniors where seniors do recreational activities, enjoy food and get relaxed by relieving stress and isolation. Senior population in Canada is escalating and this group is in severe need of services. It is expected that between 2008 and 2036, the senior population in Peel will grow by 227% from 119,430 to 393,300 (SPCP, 2010). India Rainbow is absolutely meeting the growing needs of the community.

India Rainbow is an excellent service provider for newcomers to Canada. I interacted with settlement services and got translation from Hindi to English of my certificates. I was provided with a very fast service and the staff is very supportive and knowledgeable. New comers can obtain any type of information that can help them to settle down without facing many problems.
